Corolla 4 Wheel Drive Area?!

The 4-wheel drive beaches located in Corolla leave many people curious, intrigued, and confused. Are there houses? Do people actually live there permanently? Are there actually horses there? How do you find this secluded territory?

For natives of the Outer Banks, this is not a very mysterious territory, but it is definitely respected for trying to be the last secluded beach on the East Coast. The town of Corolla is a beautiful area with beaches, shops, grand houses, and PAVEMENT. For many, the road going north through Corolla to the top of the Outer Banks will dead end at a sandy beach. For others, they keep on driving onto this sandy beach and continue north to Carova.

  • Approximately 11 miles long

  • Dead ends with a barrier at the Virginia border

  • Numerous side “streets” of sand with residential housing

  • Around 200 permanent residents and thousands of visitors in the summer months

  • No stores, only residential zoning

  • Home to the famous Corolla wild horses!
